Ybor Grille in Ruskin

When we moved to Ruskin a year ago, I knew there wouldn't be nearly the selection of dining spots we left behind in Sarasota. Not even close!

But I can honestly say I don't really miss them. It's a good thing, though, that only one of us in our two-person household is culinary-challenged.

Since the move, I've been scoping the local scene for meal deals, and I've discovered a few flavorful, ethnic results. Without a doubt, the sour orange and garlic marinated pork sandwich on traditional Cuban bread at Ybor Grille is one of the best and tastiest deals I've uncovered. And, owner Bob Fernandez's homemade sangria is delicioso!

This Little Foodie Went to Market

Grabbing a few empty canvas bags, we headed over to St. Pete on Saturday morning to the downtown market. I recommend getting there early. We arrived shortly after 9 a.m. Parking was a cinch, since we parked in the Baywalk Garage, and we had plenty of elbow room to stroll and shop. But, by the time we left just before noon, the aisles were really hopping.
Open until late May, the market offers a phenomenal variety of produce, spices, pasta, cheese, plants, even massages — and lots of tasty free samples. This market is a must, and well worth the trip over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which is NOT my favorite thing to do.
